Basketball Season and Districts Recap

– By Ing –

This year is my first chance to join a sport like basketball, since girls don’t play too many sports in Thailand. We generally spend all of our time studying at school and go to academy afterwards. The first day of practice with Mr.Frederick, Coach Sorce, and Coach Roll said that we had only 12 people because some of our other players still had to practice soccer for state. Basketball is really tiring, but it’s fun too. The team would practice two and a half hours and have only 1 minute to get a drink. The first week was the hardest because we had to run and run. While we were running and still really tired we said, “We love running because running is fun”. I got muscle while doing basketball that I never had before.

When we started the basketball tournament, I played on the JV team. There are 12 people on the JV team and 9 people on the Varsity  team. All of them are really kind to me, they always teach me and help me. We had to race with another school one time when we went there. Before I was part of the team, I never cared who would win in that game, but the team helped me to care about it. We were happy when we won and sad when we lost. I was nervous every time that our team or varsity team had a close game. “I love basketball, I love playing, I love the competitiveness of the game,” said Taylor Lewis, a senior on the NHS Varsity team. This year on our team, I had a lot of friends with me as well. The last two days of practice we had an accident. I cried, but after that, I felt really good when I thinking about how the team tries to make me smile. All of them gave me a hug, told me their own accident stories, and the next day was like normal.

Basketball season is the best time for me. A lot of good things happened in that time. The most important thing is a relationship where we are becoming friends. I am not homesick, and I don’t feel lonely anymore.
